Hi, I'm new to the board but not to growing Nepenthes in Virginia alongside orchids in my greenhouse. The bical that I have been growing for two years has really taken off this summer and put out some nice large pitchers.
Great looking bical jerry! I too an a southerner although originally from so cal, I do miss that weather but they sure cant beat our bbq By the way Bob, I have been toying with the idea of starting some type of NC carnivorous society, that is once things in school settle down (if that ever happens! ha) Anyone else in NC that would be interested? Well, my bigger plant is already in a 12inch hanging pot, and the plant is only about 6 inches in diameter. The smaller one is only about 3 inches or so in diameter and I have it in 5 inch pot I think. It could move up in pot size, but it is just starting to grow from whan I recived it so I didn't want to disturb it. I will be estatic when my bical gets pitchers with good size to them!
The plant in the photo was shifted from an 8 inch Azalea to 12 inch Azalea pot last month. It is about 3 feet in diameter with 11 traps. When it got to the point it needed watering every day, I moved it up in pot size. Trap size really increased this summer compared to last summer. I invert pots and let the pitchers rest in a pot of moss.
Jerry, Next spring you may want to move it up again to an even bigger pot and let it go crazy. You won't regret it. Manny, Are you still considering moving down to the Keys and becoming a conch? Explanation to everyone else: The florida Keys are a very different attitude and lifestyle from the rest of Florida, especially south Florida, which is very "New York-y". They like to refer to themselves as "The Conch Republic".
thatoneplantboi: Hey guys, I'm new to growing nepenthes, I'm getting a mini indoor greenhouse to grow them in. What kind of light should I use for them? Also, if you could provide a link to a product, it would be very much appreciated

borneo: Yes, they work superbly. But you don't need expensive lights, cheap ones work well too.

vidyut: hey mylesg. glad to hear that. Love this forum. Facebook can't organize knowledge like this. Will participate as much as I can.

vidyut: Photobucket has ruined this place and many other forum archives with years and years of photos worth referencing now blurred. Priceless information hostage to services once free, begging for adoption, arbitrarily monetized.
