A few days ago, i went to Paris herbarium in order to spend some time (the whole day) with the Nepenthes indochina material. Once again, i found more than i had expected. It was a delightful moment that i want to share with you.
The herbarium, the biggest in the world (more than 10 millions sheets: that’s what i’ve been told) is located within the Natural History Museum and the botanical garden: a vast area.
Here is the main alley with many mixed borders (not very pretty at this time of the year except for the magnificent Salvia display):
There were some immense greenhouses but unfortunately they were not opened at the moment because of renovation work. Argh!
Anyway, i was searching for the phanerogamy department...
Not his one.
Ah, here it is!
Looking impressive for an amateur like me, eh? Was it really november’s wind which made my spine shivered ?
I had an appointment and have been led to the herbarium room by Dr Hul, Editor-in-Chief of the "Flore du Cambodge, du Laos et du Vietnam" and Curator of Asian Collections of Paris Herbarium, a passionated and very kind person.
The herbarium room. Wow. It was like entering into botany’s nest.
Just follow my steps, dear companions...
Where is the nepenthaceae section...?
I was going to spend in the corner the rest of the day among hundreds of carnivorous plants material - mostly Nepenthes from Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and thaïland.
To follow: some pics of your favourite plants, dried, without colour but holding, each of them, a tiny piece of science.

Yes, I think I have seen that drawing of the pitcher plant before. Is it on wikipedia? I am unsure as to how famous the picture is. Was it the first drawing of a nepenthes? Also, those aldrovanda are very well preserved.
Let's all go to Twikkii island*!

Hans, Sam, what about a post with herbarium pictures as Master Ch'ien once suggested (in the platychila thread)? I know it would be a kind of eerie cemetery but hey... some of us might use it! I could provide loads of pictures and we could include those great platychila sheets Ch'ien has shown (with his authorization of course).
thatoneplantboi: Hey guys, I'm new to growing nepenthes, I'm getting a mini indoor greenhouse to grow them in. What kind of light should I use for them? Also, if you could provide a link to a product, it would be very much appreciated

borneo: Yes, they work superbly. But you don't need expensive lights, cheap ones work well too.

vidyut: hey mylesg. glad to hear that. Love this forum. Facebook can't organize knowledge like this. Will participate as much as I can.

vidyut: Photobucket has ruined this place and many other forum archives with years and years of photos worth referencing now blurred. Priceless information hostage to services once free, begging for adoption, arbitrarily monetized.
