its quite funny, a couple of years ago, I could only find one other person that actually know what nepenthes is in Indonesia, Mr Adrian, a few months ago I finnaly met with, a handfull, of people who knows, nepenthes, a couple of them grow and cultivate nepenthes, Mr Suska, and Mr Mansur, but, after we appear on the Local Paper, KOMPAS, equivalent to the New York Times, well sort off, suddenly from kids to adults have something to say about neps, and many have known them for quite sometime, seen them before at some point of their life etc., although there is a common misconception that the pitchers are the flowers and everyone seem to have nepenthes growing in their backyard or pretty close to it, which if true, is not such a bad thing (envy) heheh. On top of that, there's about a dozen that actually, or claim to grow and cultivate them.
I think theres an air of excitement, not unlike the European Euphoria in the late 19th century, with nepenthes (like Northiana and Veitchii), in Indonesia, which is great, I just hope that its not just a momentary Fad, fuelled by greedy vendour trying to make a quick buck! leaving behind empty patches of rainforest where these majestic plants use to grow.
But for now, it seems that nepenthes is here to stay, nepenthes is the "in thing", plants that eat roaches (corok, kecoak)...!!?? I want onee!!!
Let me introduce myself: My name is Siswanto Tanuatmojo (Chen Yu-xuan) from Sidoarjo, East Java. I am a Pharmacist. I have been in pharmacy for over 4 years and have worked in a pharmaceutical factory. Currently I am analytical development laboratory coordinator. I am very interesting to this unique plants and be active in the forum since I found the article in Kompas newspaper few months ago. My collection is only Nepenthes khasiana in this time.
I spent years in Indonesia ... but could not find a single person who was interested in Neps! I managed to get my various Clients and some of the government officials take me out in their vehicles to look for Neps....with limited success.
I hope to jalan jalan over to your beautiful rainforests and start snapping photos again soon. Besides, the Ayam goreng taste better in Indonesia than over here (must be the free range quality of the birds).
All the best and Terima kasih for sharing your thoughts and photos1

woooahhh....didnt know this section exist in this pp forum. I see lots of neps enthusiasts from Indonesia in here. I think this is a healthy trend as Indonesia has lots of gems in their forest. And we have only scratched the surface of Kalimantan's natural gems. Im sure there is more neps deep in jungles of Kalimantan alone such as those giant ampullarias. Unfortunately, the rate of forest clearing in Borneo is quite fast. But i believe that we should reach out to the people in the public and tell and educate them about neps. I believe the media is such a great way to reach out to new people and unite existing nep growers in Indonesia. Im glad we have the internet and forum such as this to get to know one another as i believe the internet the cheapest media. This is an exciting era for nep culture and nep growers!!!
Allow me to share what had happened in Singapore, which i hope can apply to Indonesia. A few yrs back, neps growers in Singapore had to go to overseas forums to talk about neps and CPs. The number of growers wasnt much but after a local forum for gardeners started, we get to know more neps growers and number of new neps growers keep increasing. Now, it is almost a subculture in that forum and the group is quite crazy when it comes to mass ordering of neps from overseas nep nurseries such as BE and EP. The good thing about group orders is that we all share the cost of shipping and documentation and we can reach the minimum order quite easily. We now get to know more about neps, share our growing experiences, learnt from other people's mistakes and have access to many neps species and hybrids than we could possibly can last time. Perhaps, Indonesian neps growers can utilise this forum and get to know and learn each other. I think forum is such a good platform to start a nep grower community from Indonesia......

thatoneplantboi: Hey guys, I'm new to growing nepenthes, I'm getting a mini indoor greenhouse to grow them in. What kind of light should I use for them? Also, if you could provide a link to a product, it would be very much appreciated

borneo: Yes, they work superbly. But you don't need expensive lights, cheap ones work well too.

vidyut: Photobucket has ruined this place and many other forum archives with years and years of photos worth referencing now blurred. Priceless information hostage to services once free, begging for adoption, arbitrarily monetized.
