I don't know anything about CPs in Germany, but I know they have tons of em in Amsterdam. I was there in like '99 and they have a garden market/flower district thing on one of the canals (I forget which) and there's a couple of shops who deal exculsivley with CPs. They had some really nice ones too! Large, robust & colorful. A lotta American plants and Nepenthes. I have pictures, but they're at my folks house and they're moving so it'll be a couple of weeks to a month before I get a chance to post em. So I think there should be an Amsterdam/Holland section here? Maybe?
Welcome to the board! Well, since these country specific boards are quite quiet , I don't want to create a new one. But I will go ahead and rename the German one to 'Europe' and once that one becomes overly active, we can talk again about creating more sections.... Best, Volker
As to CPs in Germany, there's lots of them. In continental Europe, the Germans are definitely the 800 pound bicalcarata when it comes to CP research, scientific (not commercial) propagation and organized enthusiasm....much like the aquarium sector. Of course, most of the supermarket CPs in Germany come from Holland, just like everything else made from plant tissue :-)
There was a big Botanical Garden in Vienna which was part of a palace if I remember correctly? Anyway in the back corner of the gardens guess what I found? A Carnivorous Plant display. I'll post pics of that too when I find em.
Here we go! Finally dug up those pics from the new house, scanned, cropped, uploaded and now ready to post..
This was when I took an Art class in Florence, Italy back in the Summer 0f '99 and travelled around afterwards stopping in both Vienna, Austria and of course Amsterdam! As well as numerous other places like Switzerland (family heritage) and France to visit the Sea Wall across Nothern France (D-Day stuff) and the French exchange student I was seeing the Spring Semester (became girlfriend for years)
Anyhoo, an outdoor terrarium at the back of a big Botanical Garden in Austria:
Apologies for the poor quality and the reflections...
Of course I hit the Cafes there Joel, one of the reasons for going there after all! hahaha... I'd just stop in quick, not the type to just sit around all day.
I've seen pics of the gardens in Lyon, fantastic Regias! Ahhh.... If I only knew then what I know now.. I was dating a girl from Bourge en Bresse and was in Lyon a few times.. I had no idea at the time what I was missing!
thatoneplantboi: Hey guys, I'm new to growing nepenthes, I'm getting a mini indoor greenhouse to grow them in. What kind of light should I use for them? Also, if you could provide a link to a product, it would be very much appreciated

borneo: Yes, they work superbly. But you don't need expensive lights, cheap ones work well too.

mylesg: i havent checked in here for a while, why does it seem all the CP forums have lost their once strong activity? the trade/sale section used to be so active and now its a ghost town. where is everybody hanging out these days for a strong online CP community?

vidyut: hey mylesg. glad to hear that. Love this forum. Facebook can't organize knowledge like this. Will participate as much as I can.

vidyut: Photobucket has ruined this place and many other forum archives with years and years of photos worth referencing now blurred. Priceless information hostage to services once free, begging for adoption, arbitrarily monetized.
