I don't know, it seems all politically motivated. In 12 years time, maybe only expensive white elephants will have been built, left redundant and useless gleaming in the sun. All in place of clear clean rivers and lush forests. Or maybe nothing at all, who knows. I do hope they implement responsible development policies and methods. Wishful thinking. It would be a terrible loss to future generations if the only forests left are found only in national parks. It's always not a pretty sight when politicians are involved.
I guess there's hope, after all. This comment was posted on the Catscity forum:
That's a curiosity, considering that the state government has stated they would gazette at least 30% of the state as reserves. The Environmental Impact Assessment study, as far as I'm made aware, took a little longer than expected, and from what I gathered, so far only the Rio Tinto-CMS joint-venture Salco has been given the green light for SCORE.
I'm pretty sure it's set in relative stone, but SCORE covering 50% of the state, that I doubt would ever happen. For starters, we don't have the population to man that massive a proposal, and Sarawak is not big in allowing a mass influx of foreign workers a la Dubai or even dragging the countryside by the heels to work in urban centres like China.
I think one day Sarawak will be somewhat like Sabah, full of oil palm plantations. You will know what I mean when you travel from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. In my hometown and as I can see in many other places in Sarawak, the government is approving very very large scale plantation of this fereign plant. I feel totally disgusted to know that most of the projects are related to certain prominent politicians.

I've long wondered what will happen when Taib's out of the picture, which won't be too far in the future, I presume. Will his family be able to retain their quasi-feudal influence structure? Or will a new generation take over and improve things? Kuala Lumpur doesn't have much influence on Sarawak politics, and even the Environmental Impact Assessments required in West Malaysia are merely optional in Sarawak, and subsequently skipped with highly implausible excuses such as "“We don’t just plan a dam without thinking of what the consequences will be on the people and the environment. Planning for the environment and planning for a dam are all part of one process.” (Taib) So I have little hope for the latter scenario. In fact, the more I read about the ambitious SCORE plan, the more I'm reminded of that gargantuan steel plant the Nigerian government built a few decades ago - not to produce steel, but to get rich through multimillion dollar bribes from the foreign companies bidding on the project.
Whatever the truth, let's hope, observe and encourage further discussion...
thatoneplantboi: Hey guys, I'm new to growing nepenthes, I'm getting a mini indoor greenhouse to grow them in. What kind of light should I use for them? Also, if you could provide a link to a product, it would be very much appreciated

vidyut: Photobucket has ruined this place and many other forum archives with years and years of photos worth referencing now blurred. Priceless information hostage to services once free, begging for adoption, arbitrarily monetized.
