It appears as though my female N. spectabilis Gunung Sinabung is coming into flower...i wont know for sure for a couple of weeks i would say at the least, but it appears it is going to... i would prefer to make species seed first, but if i cant find any boy spectabilis, i would make some hybrids too...but interesting ones this is the same female spectabilis NoaF used to make his spectabilis x truncata plants... this next photo is of one of the lowers, and is not my picture...it belongs to Noa, of the plant that mine is a cutting of.

IIRC the commonly circulated clone of xMiranda is a sterile hybrid....
Mike, i would really like to get some spect x veitchii pollen however i do not believe the pollen will stay good by the time my girl does come into bloom.

The key to that is; the 'commonly circulated' clone of xMiranda... here's the first sizable pitcher of an interesting hybrid I created with a 'different' Miranda; Now I'd probably use something else on that N. spectabilis, especially after seeing Noa's beauty! But if nothing else, xMiranda always 'might' be a possibility in other crosses! ~Shawn

id personally prefer to make species seed above anything else....and id really like to avoid using miranda, as i really -HONESTLY- dont care too much for that hybrid... idk why...

To second Shawn's experience, Sam has created several hybrids using plain ol' store-bought Miranda, including his Pompey. I don't want to get off-topic, but as of late I haven't seen any evidence of Miranda's sterility, no complaints of failed crosses, just the oft-repeated idea that it's sterile. Perhaps whatever led people to believe it was sterile is buried somewhere in forum history... Of course, if you don't like Miranda, then that's beside the point

its not that i dont LIKE it, i just dont care for it very much, and i want something a bit more showy if i am going to hybridize, since spectabilis hybrids always seem amazing anyway...id really like to make a second batch of spectabilis x truncata seed, IIRC Noa used this exact cutting for his batch that is out there now...i saw some people had hamata pollen coming, man that would be an amazing hybrid... or if i could get ahold of veitchii pollen even...idk, i have a friend up here who has some males in flower but i gotta see what he has going.... i thought the miranda sam used in many of his hybrids was a different clone, i could be way wrong of course and misunderstanding something along the line...

Hi there. I'm still waiting on my Male flowers to open. If you decide to change your mind and would like some Spec x Veit H/l pollen, I'll always be open to send you some. I hear pollen can be stored for like several months and still be viable. I'm totally for species seed. Also, I'll keep you posted on when my Northiana x Veitchii H/L, Mixta x Maxima x Veitchii x Northiana x Veitchii And other showy males come into flower.

And not the whole clone, just some of them.
