Banners? What banners? Does the Internet still have banners?
Switching the banners off in Proboards costs at least USD 7 per month, which I am not willing to pay as I don't really have something you could call a 'salary'. I am willing to be the admin and it is a pleasure. That's it. The banners have nothing to do with me, I am not profiting from them.
Yes, as in 'yes'! Rates right up there with that butt-munch who says 'congratulations, you won!'! You've got your music playing chill on some good size speakers and here comes the banner ad at "Spinal Tap volume 11!"! Seriously like salt in vasoline when she looks over at me like 'what the hell are you doing to me?'.
Everyone understands you have to advertise, but the talking ones should go, please.
i bet with all of us, we could pitch in $70 USD a month for you Volker. I mean, if each member threw in a dollar a month...That way we can have less banners, and Volker could have a little more money! Win win!
Talking sounds really brutal. I googled on the matter of talking banners and it is discussed in other forums too as it just started a few days ago. Proboards also doesn't like them and is already undertaking action. They are collecting screen captures with the offending ads and will see that they get terminated. So basically we just need to wait and see as it seems.
People always think I have a house full of humming servers and me running around with screwdrivers to keep them running all day. Nope. I am in the garden pruning pitcher plants, messing leisurely with farm and family and switch on my low powered laptop twice a day to check on the forum. The forum is owned by Proboards and I have a free ad-paid account with them. That's all. Not much difference to a member account. No need for donations, living in the Philippines I can not even have a proper (receiving) Paypal account, cash gets surely stolen before arrival and wiring a $1 will have $12 fee ;D
Absolutely, and well said, Justjack. I hope everyone recognizes from the fact that I named this thread with the opening line of the famous and extremely funny "Dead Parrot Sketch" from Monty Python's Flying Circus, that I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek while typing my "massage from the Swedish Prime Minister", as it were. (And if you understood that sentence, I give you a sincere tip of the old hat.) Kudos and such to Volker and Leilani and everyone else who maintains some semblance of order and decorum here.
And, Volker, I suppose spending your days in a data center would kind of defeat the whole purpose of escaping to the Philippines, eh? At least, it would for me.
Thankfully, at least for me, the ads have stopped talking, even within IE. I don't mind the silent ads, as they do help pay the bills.
That's about right Walter. Qualificationwise I should have become an IT guy, but I felt like doing something completely different, where I can still make use of my already sufficient IT-skills. Here we are
