Description: Carniv.Pl.Newslett.33:84 (2004)
+ "Under my cultural conditions this clone [Drosera ' Big Easy '
+ {W.J.Clemens}] has been just that, big and easy to grow and propagate.
+ It produces leaves a maximum of 23 cm (9 inches) long. It has never
+ gone dormant, never flowered or even initiated a flower stalk.
+ Several times I have managed to propagate it from leaf cuttings
+ floating in jars of pure water. It readily initiates buds and plants
+ on any and all pieces of severed root. I have propagated hundreds of
+ plants this way and have traded them widely. Other than its ease of
+ cultivation, which is its most distinctive characteristic, its compact
+ size is a distinctive characteristic of this cultivar."
Standard: Carniv.Pl.Newslett.33:87 (2004)
Etymology: after the ease of cultivation and propagation of this cultivar
Hope it's ok to copy this from the ICPS site and paste it here....
So as you can see it is about cultivation and not apperance that distinguishes this Cultivar.
I have been growing D. Regia since the Summer of 03 and the 'Big Easy' since the Fall of 05
In NY, the Summer's get hot so I can say with confidence that the Big Easy tolerates the heat Much better!
Hasn't flowered for me yet, but neither has the Regia.
The Big Easy never went dormant yet while the Regia does every year.
The Big Easy does slow down and put out smaller leaves in the dead of Winter though.
My Big Easy regularly puts out leaves more than twice the size of the above description.
Never tried the leaf in water propagation trick, but I can tell you that root cuttings sprout quite easily for me with both the Regia and the Big Easy.
Now for some recent pics:
We'll start with the Big Easy

For scale:

Here's my D. Regia coming outta dormancy:

I had to reorganize my Photobucket account so unfortunately the links were broken for my older pics here.
I'll see about fixing that sometime in the future. Hopefully...
