Actually most of the educated people in Hong Kong can read and English and seems to me that there is no need to open a new thread here ... We can just communicate in the main forum and call each other by phone if there is a need. PM also works well, too !
However, there aren't many people grow pitcher plants in Hong Kong .. unfortunately ...
Welcome Kin, Good to have our Hongkong community growing!
Just one more remark to Avery: This Hongkong board is not intended that you use other languages than English, but more for country specific data like "Where do buy your soil ingredients", "What the best place to buy pots", "How about meeting for a hike to N. mirabilis" etc. So, stuff that is not so interesting for the other people on this forum, but VERY interesting for the HK people. Ok? Volker
I grow all the plants indoors and put them in the windowsill. I started growing them at the end of 2005. I have a few plants for nepenthes and venus fly trap. My nepenthes are mainly come from MT this year (mainly lowland sp.). However, they are really very small and so I can put them all in my fish bowl.
Recently, my Darlingtonia Californica was died. I guess this may be due to too hot in HK.
In the mean time, I am looking for seeds for Drosera and Pinguicula sp. (Just want to have a trial) I have visted the websites for Best Carnivorous and send out my request by e-mail two weeks before. Unfortunately, no reply are received up to now.
Hey! I may be talking too much about myself. Springee. How about you? Are your plants grow outdoor? What are they? ;D
Kin, did you register in the HK plants ?? Remember to post some photos there so that more people can take a look at your plants ! Forget about your Darlingtonia, I bet you are not the only one who kill this snake !
Avery, I have already registered in HK plants and have seen many beautiful pictures from you, sundewrex, Wong, Matt... ...I hope you can see my plants in the coming months. In fact, I have taken a few photos for my plants but I am not satisfied with the quality (with my poor technique).
Hi HK nep lovers I wanted to know how your plants can handle this hot weather if u grow out doors like me. I recorded a temperature of 43C in the shade on my roof today so i can surely say LOWLAND or what!!!! I have pilosa, ventrillima, gentle, rafflesiana and two different Mirabilis up on the roof.Only the Ventrillima has some lid curling but i am VERY happy with this hybrid and highly recommend it to anyone ....it is very tough and the pitchers last a very long time.I don't know how it will be after a year or so ...maybe it will jus use too much energy in this hot HK weather....let's see. I am interested ,Avery, to know how u cool your plants .Do u just use aircon and try to keep humidity up somehow.I am interested because i maybe want to start some highlanders indoors but am unsure how to keep humidity high when cooling if i use aircon.I have to do it in a very tidy way cause my girlfriend is already crazy with my plants .Do u have a terrarium or something like that? BTW i also grow alot of HK native trees which get used in reforestation for our fire burnt hills.
Have any of u hk guys seen the Mirabilis in the wild here?........In Lantau there are many wild plants but unfortunatly someone is stealing them so maybe soon it will be extinct
Okay, this is the third 'foreign' CP forum thread I'm posting on. I was in HK a couple of times last year and spent most of my time over on your "flower" street ...hard to imagine having a neat area like flower street here in Canada.... pitcher plants hanging in front of all the shops, and tons of VFTs and cephalotus in the shops!

plantguyty1: Does anybody need pollen? I have N. Miranda it's the first time it flowered for me so I do not know if its sterile or a good candidate. Is there anybody with an active female that would like to give my pollen a shot?

thatoneplantboi: Hey guys, I'm new to growing nepenthes, I'm getting a mini indoor greenhouse to grow them in. What kind of light should I use for them? Also, if you could provide a link to a product, it would be very much appreciated

borneo: Yes, they work superbly. But you don't need expensive lights, cheap ones work well too.
