I think it was 4lbs of flesh for $100 or something ridiculous like that. That's why you should get me those seeds
I haven't been to the Asian markets in a while....they might have them there. I never looked at fruits there, I only went for spices. Oh and I used to get some canned coffee called Hello Boss that tasted like coffee + cereal. It was awesome.

OH MY GOD. I just bought some durian flesh at an Asian market. It was decently fresh, 3 pods wrapped up (seeds still in them .
I started to open the cellophane, and it smelled like cabbage and garbage. When I finally got the thing all the way open, I thought I was in a landfill filled with vomit and corpses. It was bad.
I finally got some in my mouth. At first, it tasted delicious....for about 0.0000005 seconds. It was like apples or something....really pretty good. After that initial bit of time, I was overpowered with the most intense garlic + trash taste I've ever tasted in my life. It was like I bit into a rotting piece of cardboard with trash juice and whole garlic cloves on it. Ughhhgghhhghghhhh.
Excuse me, but I'm going to go wash my tongue off with bleach and a brillo pad.
(my dog loved it....but she also eats poop for a living)
you been had, man. You can't compare fresh durians with those that have been exported to death all the way to Texas. Keep an open mind and try some again when you're round these here parts - I'm sure the experience will differ muchly :-)
PS: I just had some frozen durian for tea this afternoon. Never disappoints!
