TTFN Arvin i can lend you my book on "orchids in hydroponics" it's a very exhausting read, too many numbers and figures, but hey it's interesting. i read that iodine in "small" amounts is bad for algae but okay for orchids,

Carlo, unfortunately I am really just interested in CPs, my aunt actually made the mistake of asking me for opinion on how she can propagate a plant, and I said, beats me! Actually Orchids are a bit of the enemy of my CPs, because my mom buys and keeps orchids which actually competes for space in our small patio garden. Thanks for the info about iodine, might just do an experiment. TTFN Arvin

I'd like to check if anyone of you (merlin?) knows where to buy sphagnum peat moss or peat moss in the Philippines? I'm looking for the powdered form. How about Live Sphagum moss? I have been able to buy the following in the following places: Dried Sphagnum- Should be available in most orchid or plant store, I bought mine in a shop in Sucat Paranaque near Manila Memorial park, I'm sure cartimar and Manila Seedling have them. Perlite- Available right outside of SM Supermarket in Makati, forgot the company name that makes them, will post when I confirm. Ace hardware technically should have them as well. They also have vermiculite, and the likes. Coco Coir or Coco peat- available in Cartimar and other plant stores, I have seen coco peat bricks in Ace hardware as well. Can any one tell me where can I find LFS or Dried Sphagnum in Cebu? I can't find it. Attachments:

Frankly speaking I have stopped using LFS or what not for my CPs, now I am using purely cocopeat or cocochips depending on the CP species. Sometimes I mix both.

From what I have observed, if you use LFS in the true tropics, you get algae and everything breaks down fast and get soggy. It's a combination of high temps, high humidity and continuously moist conditions. You can bar the occurrence of algae if you put your plant in the shade and if you water less often. But you shouldn't be keeping cps by then.

I havent tried diatomite with cps, but I did with orchids. over time they crumble and turn to muck which is not good for orchids so I stopped using it. it also absorbs nutrients, definitely not good for cps. but lets wait for others to chime in, i havent had good success with vfts anyways.
