I'm usually not too bothered by the skinks which tend to root around in my Neps, figuring its good aeration. But today I witnessed an even better reason to let 'em hang out. I missed the beginning of the confrontation so don't know if perhaps the skink has eggs in the Nep pot or was just tired of being pushed around. But when both the snake and the skink got into it it was hard to miss the plants on my porch swinging around. I didn't start shooting video until they moved out of the hanging basket where they'd been going at it for 5 minutes already. I was surprised to see the skink so aggressively chasing the snake around and even latching on and drawing blood. In the end the skink simply opened his mouth and dropped the snake off the edge. The snake is a mildly venomous type that's pretty common around here but I'm happy to know I have a live-in 'watchman'! Well. I can't seem to 'embed' the you-tube (PM me if you know how) so here's a link to the video; www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWvKBM28UG0

Entertaining video, though I feel bad for the snake. They're my favorite reptile, go figure, but what species is it?
