Wrigleyana is actually the first hybrid involving mirabilis x hookeriana. N. Coccinea was a later remake using different parental forms. Most of those Victorian hybrids deserve more attention than they get.

The Victorians are mostly lowlanders, isn't that right? I've never really looked too closely at them since warm plants aren't on my list of growables!

Paul, One of our favorites is N. Mastersiana (khasiana x sanguinea). It should do well for you.

I have had four plants arrive broken(snapped in half, etc) in my life, and three of them were Masteriana. What are the odds of that? Always wanted one, but am scared the next one may expolde!
Cheers,
Joe

More on those Wrigleyana (mirabilis x hookeriana) plants: there were hybrids made earlier,N. Stewartii (1879), N. Robusta (1880), N. Lawrenciana (1880), and N. Morganiana (1881). N. Wrigleyana and N. Coccinea are from 1882. We have seen male and female plants of Wrigleyana and Coccinea, but Morganiana is a single female clone. Anyone aware of any of the others still in cultivation?

I ordered N. 'williamsii' (n. x sedeni x x hookeriana 1880) from Bruce Lee. I just liked the name
